Buffalo Super Friends
NEXT PROJECT: 'THE SUPERHUMAN SELF-ACTUALIZATION PROJECT'
Dreams... a transitional space, a reality which has no
other quality than to be there or to become confused with the projected surface
of an internal reality...
the self finds itself in an intermediate space between
outside and inside, between I and not-I, between child and mother, between the
body and the word... a play space.
From play to I: such is the ceaseless movement,
constantly reinvented, without any linearity in its passage.
-Winnicott.
Our next project is really the same as our last project, but this time in color, and with a performance. The Buffalo Super Friends will re-approach the series of investigations, experiments, and hypotheses not approached since childhood. Taking on their alter-egos—clad in caped-costumes, they will attempt these experiments:
v Trying to move a pencil, resting lightly on a fold-out table, using only the power of their minds.
v Trying, through sheer will, imagination, and a longing for the open space of the sky, to achieve flight: jumping and not landing.
v Trying through the power of their minds, to communicate without words or physical actions, simple thoughts between their minds.
v Trying to control the actions of others, and the timing of the universe, through transcendental longing and focused silent thought.
The gallery space in which these experiments are attempted (who knows the results!) will be augmented with a two channel, projected, video & sound installation, that both emotes and attempts to create a transitional space of play and dreams, in which this nostalgic return is possible... it is a sort of Willy Wonka, or The Never Ending Story... a magical realm where dreams really do come true. The installation will use and build on imagery and sound from their previous installation, Terminus.
